Athletes can develop osteophytes around the elbow, which may cause pain or reduced range of motion. One example is seen in throwers with posterome-dial impingement who develop an osteophyte on the olecranon process, occasionally with adjacent chondromalacia or spur formation of the humerus in the adjacent olecranon fossa . These osteophytes sometimes can be difficult to identify on radiographs, but are shown well on MRI cross-sectional images .
