M(A) = 011111 ... 1 For a dark/light or a light/dark boundary moving to the left at unit velocity. The first zero in the output sequence is because no output occurs when the contrast change first hits the a^ receptor. Output starts when it hits the (n - 1)th receptor.

M(A) = (011111 ... 1) For a dark or light spot of width 8 moving with v = -1 (to the left).
