28.27 A Haplontic Life Cycle In the life cycle of Ulothrix, a filamentous, multicellular haploid gametophyte generation alternates with a diploid sporophyte generation consisting of a single cell (the zygote). Like Ulva gametophytes, Ulothrix gametophytes can also reproduce asexually (left side of figure).
