Present Series

From January 1997 (14) to December 2000, 150 consecutive patients with pituitary tumors and other related lesions underwent endoscopic endonasal transsphe-noidal surgery.

There were 93 women and 57 men, with an age range of 16 to 75 yr (median 45.4 yr). The majority (125 patients) had pituitary adenomas; 105 of which were macroadenomas and 20 were microadenomas. Macroadenomas were totally removed in 60 cases, near totally in 28, (>80%) and only a partial removal was achieved in 17. Of the 20 microadenomas, 17 patients had total removal of the lesion. The patient population, case distribution, and tumor removal are listed in detail in Table 1.
