This provides an assessment of biochemical control of Cushing's syndrome, particularly when adrenolytic drugs are being used. It is performed in the non-
fasting state beginning after usual medication. A mean serum Cortisol between 150 and 300 nmol/L indicates good biochemical control.
Serum cortisol in all, ACTH and glucose, if required, at 09.00, 12.00, 15.00, 18.00, 21.00, and 00.00 h (in in-patients).
Note: Metyrapone results in a rise in 11-deoxycortisol, which may crossreact with some cortisol assay.
