Diagnosed with acromegaly in my late 40s, I have since had transsphenoidal surgery and radiotherapy, and I am now balancing a drug regimen that gives me the optimum feeling of well-being. During the course of treatment it was discovered that I had enlarged parathyroid glands as well, so I am, perhaps, more "complicated" than other pituitary patients. However, I believe I share with others a feeling that a return to what I remember as being "fit and well" is elusive. I am lucky to have been treated in a medical center committed to excellence.
As a trustee of The Pituitary Foundation, a UK-based patient support organization, I have met many pituitary patients during the last four years and conversations with them have contributed to this chapter.
