Tirofiban is a synthetic nonpeptide with high specificity and low affinity for the Gp IIb/IIIa receptor. Its biologic half-life is approx 2 h, and is best reversed by discontinuation. Platelet transfusion may also be helpful in reversal of drug effect. It is renally cleared to varying degrees (40-70%), so similar it eptifibatide, its dose must be decreased in patients with renal dysfunction, and its use should be avoided in patients with renal failure. Tirofiban is approved for use in ACS.
