This is used for incising the uncinate process but, as mentioned, care needs to be taken in order to avoid entering the orbit (Fig. 10.22). It can also be used to incise a concha bullosa if the surgeon wants to remove its lateral half (the medial half should be left intact as it contains valuable olfactory fibers). The concha bullosa having been opened, the lateral segment can be incrementally removed with straight-through cutting instruments.
