This artifact is recognized by the presence of bright and dark lines (a, coronal MIP; b, coronal source image) that parallel the edge of the enhancing abdominal aorta (smallarrows) and results from the premature acquisition of low spatial frequency data (central k-space) during the leading edge of the contrast bolus when arterial signal is rapidly rising. This artifact is more common with centric acquisition ordering which acquire central k-space data early. "Ringing artifact" can be avoided by timing such that low spatial frequencies are obtained during the plateau phase of the arterial enhancement (see Fig. 8).
