Marfan's syndrome is a connective tissue disorder with an autosomal dominant inheritance of variable penetrance. Two of four major criteria involving the cardiovascular, ocular and skeletal systems and family history have to be present for diagnosis. Cardiovascular complications include aortic root dilatation, aortic dissection and aortic valve insufficiency .
Non-invasive evaluation of the aorta with MR imaging is very effective for delineation of the aortic configuration and thus detection of aneurys-mal dilatation, dissection, and aortic insufficiency. In addition, detection of aneurysms of the pulmonary artery, abdominal aorta or aortic branch vessels, also encountered in Marfan's syndrome, is possible. Pre- and postoperative evaluation of vascular structures can be performed reliably using spin-echo sequences, cine imaging and MR an-giography .

This ebook provides an introductory explanation of the workings of the human body, with an effort to draw connections between the body systems and explain their interdependencies. A framework for the book is homeostasis and how the body maintains balance within each system. This is intended as a first introduction to physiology for a college-level course.
