Epidemiology and Control

All members of the genus Flavivirus are classic arboviruses (Table 26-2). For a general description of their epidemiology the reader is referred to Chapters 14 and 25; methods of control are discussed in Chapters 15 and 25. In the sections below we deal with specific features of the epidemiology and control of the major human flaviviruses, beginning with the most notorious, yellow fever, after which the family and genus were named, and continuing to other hemorrhagic fevers including dengue, today the most widespread of all arbovirus diseases.
